What are immigration exams?

Immigration exams are medical evaluations, health screenings, and sometimes treatments needed to meet the requirements for obtaining a Green Card or U.S. citizenship. What should I bring with me to an immigration exam?

It’s important to bring with you the following to an immigration exam:

• Form I-693
• Government-issued photo ID
• Vaccination records
• Health insurance card if you have one
• Form of payment

Examples of government-issued photo IDs include a valid passport or driver’s license – or a birth certificate or affidavit if you’re 14 years old or younger.

What happens during an immigration exam?

Vital signs check
Your specialist weighs you and checks your temperature, pulse, blood pressure, or other vital signs.

Medical history review
They review your medical history by asking questions about past diagnoses, medications, lifestyle habits, symptoms, and more.

Medical exam
During a medical exam, your specialist evaluates your overall health, looking for signs of illnesses, injuries, or diseases. They assess your limbs, abdomen, neck, eyes, ears, throat, and more. Your civil surgeon also checks your heartbeat, reflexes, and breathing.

Health screenings
They test for communicable diseases, including tuberculosis, sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), and others. You might need additional diagnostic testing.

Vaccinations or treatments
If you require any vaccinations, the Nova Wellness Health team provides them. They also offer medication prescriptions and other treatments if you have a medical condition.

What happens after an immigration exam?

After an immigration exam at Nova Wellness Health, your civil surgeon completes form I-693. They seal the form in an envelope, which you can submit to USCIS with your immigration application. They also give you a copy of the completed form to keep for your personal records.
